Former England coach David Lloyd has made the extraordinary prediction that Australia will not only lose the Ashes but get whitewashed 5-0 on home turf.
He believes Australia are at “sixes and sevens” and England are confident they they can regain the urn for the first time in a decade when they travel to Australia.
Since stunning Australia 3-1 in 2010-11, England have failed to even win a Test during their last three Ashes away series.
After England fast bowling great Stuart Broad recently declared Australia to be in the worst shape since 2010-11, Lloyd believes history is beckoning for the Brendon McCullum-coached team.
“I hate predictions, I can’t be doing with them,” Lloyd told SEN on Thursday.
“But I’m going turn into Glenn McGrath, it’s going to be 5-0 England.”
Australia have achieved the 5–0 feat three times – in 1920–21, 2006–07 and 2013–14. England have never done so.
Lloyd, who coached England between 1996 and 1999, said England sense they can do something special this summer.
“It’s dead simple,” Lloyd said. “If you come up against a team better than you in their backyard, you will suffer.
“Our guys right now, there’s a real sense that we can do something here.
“We’ve come over there and lost before. There is a real thought right now that England have a massive chance to win the ashes in Australia.

“They feel they have the attack, that Australia are at sixes and sevens with the line-up, who will open, who is three, does Marnus come back in etc.
“Then there’s a really great match up between two of the best in the world with Joe Root and Steve Smith.
“Whoever comes out on top of those two will have a real influence on the series.”
Australia are yet to decide on an opening partner for Usman Khawaja, with young incumbent Sam Konstas facing a giant battle to keep his spot.
Lloyd thought the contenders – Konstas, Labuschagne, Jake Weatherald and Matt Renshaw – wouldn’t strike fear into the England camp.
“All the talk seems to be about Konstas,” Lloyd said. “Has he got substance behind him? It’s a big deal to shove a kid in to open. Fair dinkum, if he gets into the side then fair do’s.
“If I’m England coach and the team, am I worried about them? None of the names are going to up on the whiteboard.
“I’m not worried about any of those names.”
“Head and Smith are the names that will be on the England whiteboard. They’re dangerous, they are game changers.”
