The looming threat of the R360 competition is causing plenty of concern at NRL clubs with Parramatta the latest team facing a poaching raid after Zac Lomax has been approached by the rugby rebels.

Lomax would be a revelation in rugby as an outside back with pace, agility and elite leaping ability as well as goal-kicking skills.

He joined the Eels this season on a four-year deal reportedly worth $650,000 a season.

R360 recruiters view him as a key target and are likely to offer him double his current salary to make the switch to the proposed global tournament which will kick off in 2027.

Although he would need to gain a release from the final two years of his Parramatta contract and the club would be unwilling to let him go after an impressive first season at the club.

The former Dragons star has formed a potent combination with half Mitchell Moses and they are key parts of the Eels’ rebuilding attempts for the next few seasons.

The Eels have been told that Lomax may be open to joining the R360 brigade, according to The Daily Telegraph.

R360 have been linked to several NRL stars with Ryan Papenhuyzen meeting their talent scouts in Melbourne recently.

Storm teammate Nelson Asofa-Solomona, Warriors veteran Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and St George Illawarra forward Jaydn Su’A have also been linked to the R360 circuit.

Rabbitohs utility Jye Gray is another NRL target viewed as a potential recruit and has confirmed his interest.

The livewire utility played union at The Southport School on the Gold Coast before he was signed by the Bunnies.

Off contract at the end of next season, he could command close to $1 million per season with R360, which would swamp any offer likely to come his way from NRL clubs.

Gray has been named in the No.1 jersey for Saturday’s Allianz Stadium stoush with Parramatta.

Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett recently warned the NRL that the R360 recruiters had the potential to make a major impact on league’s talent pool.

“It’s a huge threat, absolutely,” Bennett said. “The NRL is the toughest competition in the world with the best athletes.

“We are absolutely under threat. We cannot ignore it.

“I don’t know how we combat it but I will say this – the game needs to come together sooner rather than later in terms of the CEOs and the game itself.

“Let’s talk about what the hell is going on out there. Have the conversation we need to have with each other and discuss how do we stop it, what do we do?”
