Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge has been forced to undergo surgery after breaking his hand during a mid-game dummy spit last Thursday against the Swans at the SCG.
Beveridge reportedly banged his fist into a whiteboard during his half-time address to the player as he tried to fire them up in what was a close contest which went down to the final minute of play.
According to a 7News report, he put up a brave front for the rest of the game and had the injury treated the following day upon their return to Melbourne.
Coincidentally, the Bulldogs adopted a boxing theme for the crunch clash with Sydney but Beveridge clearly needs to work on his punching technique.
Injuries to young talls Sam Darcy (corked thigh) and James O’Donnell (concussion) in the middle stages of the contest led to the Dogs going down in a thriller with the Swans hanging on for an 11.12 (78) to 11.10 (76) win.
“If we had have won, they’d say it’s one that got away, and we probably feel like that because at the end I still thought we were going to win it.”,” Beveridge said.
Western Bulldogs have another crucial fixture on the horizon against Essendon on Friday night.
Eagles unfazed by Reid draft speculation
There is speculation mounting that prized draft prospect Harley Reid is unwilling to relocate to Western Australia if the Eagles select him with the No.1 pick.
Reports have emerged that the Bendigo teenager is keen to remain in Victoria when he goes, as expected, with the first pick in the draft later this year.
Eagles football chief Gavin Bell responded to the rumours by saying he was unaware of any talk about Reid being reluctant to move to the other side of the country but added the club would pick who they thought was the best available with their first-round selection.
Reid has been described as one of the best prospects in AFL draft history and the Eagles are desperate for a change in fortunes.
Bell told SEN Radio that “we want to bring in the best available talent with the picks that we have”.
“We would work our way through a process, there’s interviews to do, conversations with agents that happen with all those players … there’s a lot of work to do before we make our selections.
““Now that the State Championships are finished our recruiting team is going back through all their assessments of the players, and we’re starting to frame up our draft board and our communication between agents and players has begun and we’ve had no communication from any players of a lack of willingness to come to our football club.”
